One more great resource for artists I just learned about: Minted. It’s a marketplace of independent artists who holds design challenges on a regular basis to help artists gain exposure and build their businesses. Thanks to Sandra from ArtisticMoods I got wind of the Pottery Barn challenge just in time to participate! Voting is now open, please help me out and vote for my design! Voting goes on until Feb 29.
With just one day to make the deadline I grabbed a sketch I had done in preparation of a new paper diorama and turned it into vector art for the challenge.
The idea for the sketch was to illustrate the wild animals that cohabits with humans in the big city of Los Angeles: coyotes, deers, raccoons, even bobcats! Though I’ve never seen a coyote or bobcat, there’s been raccoons in my backyard at night and one time I ran into a deer with majestic antlers right near a big boulevard. And of course there are hummingbirds all around.
If you like podcasts, check out Valley of Smoke on iTunes, my friend Alex from my ukulele band produces it, very fun unknown stories of Southern California.. the latest episode goes deep into this wild animal side of Los Angeles and was the original inspiration for my piece.
